Coachella Music Festival

Officially known as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Coachella is an annual event held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Founded in 1999 by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen and organized by Goldenvoice, the festival showcases a variety of music genres, including rock, pop, indie, hip-hop, and electronic dance music. In addition to music, Coachella also features fascinating art installations and sculptures on multiple stages throughout the venue.

The festival traces its origins to a Pearl Jam concert in 1993, with its inaugural edition taking place in 1999, three months after Woodstock ’99. Over the years, Coachella evolved from a one-day event to a two-day format in 2002, and eventually to a three-day weekend in 2007, with a second weekend introduced in 2012. The festival is known for its immense popularity and profitability, but was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The success of Coachella has led to the creation of other festivals at the same venue, including Stagecoach, Big 4, and Desert Trip.
