Cookware Brand Le Creuset to Release Colorful Pokemon-Themed Collection in Japan

Despite Pokémon’s global popularity, the series is no stranger to region-specific collaborations. Colorful cookware brand Le Creuset will release a set of Pokémon-themed items for pre-order on July 5. Unfortunately, for now, they’ll only be found in Japanese kitchens or those willing to import them.

Le Creuset is known for its enameled cast iron cookware, which comes in just about every color imaginable. Sometimes, it’s decorated with cute patterns or made into special shapes, like a pumpkin-shaped saucepan with a flower-stalk-shaped lid knob. The brand’s Japanese arm has experimented with collaborations before, including with Disney characters like Mickey Mouse and Winnie the Pooh.

The upcoming Pokémon collection is just as colorful and cheerful as one would expect from the brand. There are five sets of mugs, plates, and rice bowls in the collection, each featuring a star Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, the starter Pokémon from the Kanto region; Pikachu; and Snorlax. Each set is a different color, which may not seem to match, but it could be useful for a household where everyone has their own tableware.

The 22cm-long cooking Marmite is a stylish black with white outlines of the featured Pokémon and other first-generation Pokémon. There are also two sets of “cutlery”, although they look more like trays: one is in the shape of a Poké Ball and the other is in the shape of a Master Ball. The top of the Poké Ball looks to be removable, making it easy to use as a serving tray.

Finally, the two Pikachu-themed products are particularly stylish. The saucepan is a gradient yellow with Pikachu’s tail on the side, and the teapot is yellow with black accents. The rim features a silhouette of Pikachu in a running animation. The designs are minimalistic, with just enough of the Pokémon peeking through the lids to feel special but not distracting. To top it off, their stainless steel lid knobs (as well as the Marmite knob) feature an elegant Pokeball silhouette as an extra pleasing detail.

Unlike the recent Krispy Kreme donut collaboration, which was only available in Korea, importing the cookware will be a much simpler affair for anyone outside of Japan interested in these items. The pre-order period for these items will run from July 5th to 10th, so it may be worth considering while the yen-dollar exchange rate is still favorable. The US Pokemon Center website does occasionally sell cookware, and has featured other brand collaborations in the past (such as the Mimosa e Pokemon Moleskine notebook), but unfortunately, this collaboration is more likely to be sold only in Japan.
