Darkest Hour

Darkest Hour is a heavy metal band from Washington, D.C., formed in 1995. Although they initially struggled to gain recognition, their albums Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us, and The Eternal Return were all critically acclaimed. Deliver Us debuted at #110 on the Billboard charts, selling 6,600 copies, while The Eternal Return reached even higher at #104. Their latest album, Godless Prophets & the Migrant Flora, peaked at #42 on the Billboard 200, marking a shift in their musical style.

Musical style and influences of Darkest Hour

The band’s music is a fusion of different metal styles, such as melodic death metal, metalcore and thrash metal. They say they are very fond of Swedish death metal. One of the guitarists, Kris Norris, explains it this way: Imagine you have a big book about metal, and almost every band from Scandinavia is an inspiration to them. Not just one band like In Flames or At The Gates; almost every band from the region influences them.
