We’re excited to announce that the experimental phase of our upcoming major game update 1.23 has begun! This version is available now on Steam and Xbox, and the full list of changes can be found on our forums (PC, Xbox). In the meantime, we’ve prepared this article to outline all aspects of the update, and we’d like to get your feedback.
- One of the major new additions in this update is player spawn groups. We have updated the player spawning system so that it can now cycle between predefined sets of locations during server runtime. Our main goal is to bring new players closer together and increase opportunities for interaction. Finding a good value for this new system may take some time, so please let us know your experience.
- Speaking of player spawns, we’ve also introduced the ability to adjust player spawn gear via dedicated mission files. During the experiment, documentation for these two features will appear in the official wiki.
- We’ve made some adjustments to M3S trucks and M1025 off-road driving that should help players drive uphill and in general off-road conditions. In addition to this, we’ve also introduced the push vehicle action, which should help get the vehicle out of various minor collisions with the environment. We’re also constantly working to improve your immersion by adding more custom sounds to in-game action. You can find a list of them in the change comments. Remember, this is a big undertaking, but we are slowly getting there.
- The server browser has once again received quality-of-life improvements, this time introducing the number of players in the queue (if any), as well as displaying the time on each server (previously missing in the console server browser). We also decided to disable the placement of base building objects in underground areas, although server owners can re-enable this via server-side settings.
- The long-awaited overhaul of Black Russia’s Vibor Air Force Base (commonly known as NWAF) has arrived, along with a number of supporting assets. We hope these changes will improve your experience in the area by making heists less boring and interactions more fun. Speaking of looting, we’ve made some adjustments to the distribution of premium weapons in Black Russia and Livonia. When you’re (potentially) shooting at each other in the updated airfield, be on the lookout for any character movement desync on target when shooting between trees, as we’ve been working on some low-level fixes to address in those situations.
- We added a lot of decorations (mainly the player’s head) and the shovel made a comeback. There’s also a brand new rifle that may look familiar to those who have played the older Arma 2 mod.
- Finally, you might want to check it out this time around because things should feel very different!

DayZ is a multiplayer survival game produced and published by Bohemia Interactive. It’s based on the popular mod for Arma 2 and became a standalone game after five years of early access testing on Windows. The game is set in a fictional post-Soviet republic called Black Russia, where a mysterious plague has transformed much of the population into aggressive “infected” species. Players take on the role of survivors and search for important resources such as food, water, weapons, and medicine. They must navigate encounters with the infected and other players while trying to survive.
In later updates, DayZ expanded to include the fictional country of Livonia from Arma 3. Development of the game began in 2012 and was led by the mod’s creator, Dean Hall, who joined Bohemia Interactive. The focus is on tweaking the engine, creating a fully functional client server system, and adding features such as diseases and an improved inventory system. DayZ has sold over 3 million units in Early Access.

In DayZ, the main goal is to survive a zombie outbreak in a fictional area called Chernarus. Players start with basic supplies such as clothes, bandages, and some food, and must explore the vast landscape to find more resources such as food, water, and clothing. They can also discover weapons used for protection. Special events such as helicopter crashes or poison gas attacks can be dangerous and can lead to illness or even death if not treated properly.
Player interaction is an important part of the game, allowing communication via voice chat, text, and gestures such as waving or surrendering. Players will also encounter illnesses such as colds and cholera, which require different forms of treatment. Injuries need to be dealt with quickly to avoid serious consequences.
DayZ also offers features like farming, cooking, crafting, and building structures. Players can even use vehicles for faster travel, although they require maintenance. The game revolves around survival in a harsh environment where zombies and other players are potential threats.
