Empires of the Undergrowth: Beginner Story Progression Guide

Empires of the Undergrowth is a little complex at first, especially when you try out the game’s story mode. You have to manage your Formicarium and play different stages to acquire resources, but the stages and resources in the Formicarium are handled separately. In this guide, we’ll show you all the basics you need to know in a beginner’s guide to story progression in Empires of the Undergrowth.

How to progress in the story of Underworld

Story level selection in Empires of the Undergrowth

When you start playing Story Mode, your colony or ant colony begins as a solitary Formicidae The Queen Ant is trying to build her own nest. A scientist has placed you in an ant nest as an experiment to see how your colony of gene-thief ants can expand and adapt in different environments. This is the stage where you must survive various experiments and stages.

Before the experiment you will see different stages under the story level selection menu. You can open it by pressing the button in the upper left corner of the screen. There are two different stages before the experiment where you can build the main ant chamber.

When playing in the Ant Nest, you have three different resources: Territory, Food, and Royal Jelly. You will not be able to find these resources until you complete the stages.

Once you choose any stage like 1.1 or 1.2, you will enter different scenarios where you will play as a separate colony and complete all objectives. If you are victorious, you will receive rewards such as territory, food and royal jelly.

Each stage has a different difficulty, and once you complete a stage for the first time you will also unlock Challenge Mode which will offer more food, more royal jelly, and larger territories as rewards.

These resources are transferred to your main ant nest and then used to improve your colony, provide your ants with some much-needed upgrades, or provide food to increase the size of the colony. You will go through these stages repeatedly until you become stronger through upgrades. Once you are strong enough, you can try to complete the experimental stage or the main story. During this stage, you must use your ant nest.

This is how the game’s level design works, you have to go through different stages and scenarios to advance the storyline.
