Escape Music Festival History

The Escapade music festival, based in Ottawa, Canada, started in 2010 as a one-day festival featuring Deadmau5 and attracting a small crowd. It has grown significantly in size over the years. In 2011, the festival moved to a larger venue, hosted heavyweights such as Tiesto, Laidback Luke and Calvin Harris, and attracted around 5,000 attendees. In 2012, the festival expanded even further and took place over two days at the Ottawa Stadium, attracting an audience of 15,000, including famous DJs such as Avicii and Afrojack.

However, after the 2012 event, one of the co-founders absconded with $600,000 in tickets, leading to legal consequences. In 2013, the festival moved to the RA Center grounds, hosting more than 20,000 attendees over three days. Notable headliners include Ferry Corsten and Beyond & Beyond.

In 2014, Escapade celebrated its fifth anniversary at Rideau Carleton Raceway, attracting over 30,000 participants and expanding to a four-day event, Eric Prydz ) and Kaskade (Kaskade) and other heavyweights were in attendance. With the support of sponsors such as Hot 89.9 FM and Heineken, the festival continues to thrive. In 2018, notable performers included Armin van Buuren and Zedd, with a total audience of 42,000 over both days. It is worth noting that entrepreneur Olivier Primeau invested in the festival in 2018.
