The game is based on the 1990 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game F-Zero. In “F-Zero 99” you can compete online with 98 other players. The goal is to stay in the race longer than everyone else and finish the race. Each player has a power meter, and if the meter is depleted due to damage, they are out of the match. You can replenish your meter by knocking out weaker opponents. Collecting Super Sparks on the track gives you access to a higher path, called the Sky Road, allowing you to overtake other players in a short amount of time.

F-Zero 99 gameplay

F-Zero 99 is a game similar to Pac-Man 99, Super Mario Bros. 35, and Tetris 99. It turns the classic F-Zero game into a battle royale game. The graphics, cars, and tracks are all taken from older SNES games, giving it a nostalgic feel. It borrows the speed-boosting philosophy from the F-Zero X.

In the game, you will compete against 98 real players, with the goal of being the last and finishing first. Your car has an energy meter which is used to increase health and speed. If it runs out, your car will explode and you’re out, but you can replenish it in the pit area. Collecting Super Sparks gives you access to the Sky Road, a floating road for a quick speed boost. As the race progresses, slower bumper cars will join in, making the race even trickier. You can push these and other cars out of the way using your spin move.

The main mode is an online match for up to 99 players. There are other modes such as Grand Prix (a series of five races), Team Battle, Pro Track (a harder race), and Practice. Grand Prix requires tickets earned through other modes, and points appear on weekly leaderboards. You can unlock new colors and designs by completing goals.
