Khalid’s condition had become so severe that he had to rely on friends and family for support. Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah intervened on Khalid’s behalf and directed him to Riyadh for treatment. Weight Loss Journey
Under the supervision of his doctor, Khalid followed a strict daily diet plan and developed a custom diet and training plan in addition to his gastric bypass surgery. Amazingly, he lost approximately 320 kg (710 lbs), more than half his body weight, in six months. By November 2017, he had lost a total of 542 kg (1,195 lbs), and by 2023, he will be down to 63.5 kg (140 lbs). This dramatic transformation has restored his mobility, and he is able to walk with assistance for the first time in five years.

After weight loss
After losing so much weight, Khalid underwent multiple surgeries to remove excess skin, a common problem for people who lose a lot of weight. His weight loss journey has been described as inspirational and he has been affectionately nicknamed “Smiley Man” by the medical staff who assisted him during his treatment.
Royal intervention and medical treatment
In August 2013, when Khalid weighed 610 kg (1,345 lbs), King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia ordered him to be taken to Riyadh for treatment. A team of 30 medical professionals oversaw his treatment, including:
- Gastric bypass surgery
- Create a strict diet and exercise regimen tailored to his needs
- Intensive physical therapy to restore mobility
Just six months into treatment, Khalid had lost more than half his body weight, dropping more than 320 kg (710 lbs). By November 2017, he had lost a total of 542 kg, down to 68 kg (150 lbs).
Remove excess skin
Due to his dramatic weight loss, Khalid required multiple surgeries to remove excess skin buildup. In January 2018, he had his final surgery.
