The Chinese Room’s latest horror adventure, Still Wakes the Deep, is out now on PC and consoles. The Unreal Engine 5 game looks stunning, and the Steam version runs very well, with plenty of settings to tweak, including support for upscaling technology. However, controller support isn’t perfect at the moment, and if you run into any issues playing Still Wakes the Deep, especially with a PlayStation controller, here’s how to fix them.
Fixed the issue of still waking up the depth controller
In order to ensure your controller works properly in Still Wakes the Deep, you need to enable Steam Input.

To do this, follow these steps:
- Make sure Still Wakes the Deep is not running
- Open Steam, and navigate to your library
- Here, right-click Still Wakes the Deep and select Properties
- In the Controller tab, make sure Enable Steam Input is selected in the drop-down menu
That’s all you need to do and your PlayStation controller will now be working.
Controller support on PC
Still Wakes the Deep’s controller support is a little lacking, and while Steam Input allows you to play the game with most controllers, the Xbox controller only has button prompts. Without Steam Input, the PlayStation controller doesn’t work and doesn’t have proper prompts.
Even if you set the “Controller Hardware” in “Controls” to a PlayStation controller, it won’t actually do anything, you’ll still get the Xbox prompt. This setting leads me to believe that this feature is currently buggy, otherwise the PlayStation controller wouldn’t be mentioned in the game.
Hopefully, these issues will be addressed in upcoming versions, as as of this writing, the only way to play the game with a non-Xbox controller is to use Steam Input.
The game also doesn’t have Steam Cloud, so if you want to back up your progress, be sure to check the location of your save files.
