How to Get Sand in Pax Dei

There are so many resources in Pax Dei that it feels more like a deep survival crafting game than an MMORPG. Some of these resources are commonly needed for multiple recipes, but some are specifically used to craft some important items, such as sand. Sand is easy to find early on, but if you overlook something, you may never find it. Sand is important as you enter the mid-game, and this is where you can find it.

Where to find sand in Pax Dei

Sand is the most unlikely way to find it. You have to mine it through Gneiss deposits found throughout the world. Gneiss deposits appear in almost every starting area, and they also appear in mountains. You have a better chance of finding them in random areas than in mountains, because you are likely to find some other deposits in mountains, such as iron and granite.

First you need to craft a basic carpenter’s workbench and look for a stone pickaxe crafting tool. You need to get the stone pickaxe tool to mine the gneiss deposit. The stone pickaxe tool requires 2 long wooden stakes and 1 gneiss. Use the construction hammer to build a wooden chopping block, then you can craft the long wooden stakes there. You will also use the wooden chopping block to craft planks, so you will need to craft it anyway.

After you get the Stone Pickaxe, wander around the starting area, preferably one near the hills. Look for a large, shiny rock and start hammering it with your Stone Pickaxe. It will drop a lot of Gneiss, but you’ll also get some extra Sand. You can even get some rare Glass from it, but I’ve only gotten it once after mining a large Gneiss deposit.

What is sand used for?

Pax Dei's frosted glass

Sand is mainly used to make Rough Glass. You must craft a Stone Anvil and obtain ingredients such as Clay, Short Wood, and Gneiss to unlock the Furnace. Farming Clay is the hardest material to farm here, as you need 60 Clay.

A furnace requires 50 sand and 20 charcoal to make 10 pieces of raw glass. It takes a full 40 minutes to make one glass item. So if you need raw glass urgently, you may want to make multiple furnaces to double your speed.
