nightingale

Nightingale is a survival video game developed by Inflexion Games. The game was released in Early Access on February 20, 2024. The game tells a story of Victorian survival in a gaslit fantasy world. It has some light-hearted role-playing elements, such as quests. One of its standout features is Realms, which can be a challenge for survivors.

Nightingale’s developer, Inflexion Games, is an independent Canadian studio founded by former BioWare executives. The game was originally planned as an MMORPG, but later transformed into a survival game. Unlike traditional role-playing games, Inflexion aims to provide an engaging premise and lore, rather than a linear narrative, allowing players to create their own stories. Nightingale is currently only available for Windows systems, and the early access period is expected to last about a year.

How to set up and return to your home realm in Nightingale?

Setting the primary domain in Nightingale

To set your main domain as Nightingale, also known as your resting domain, you need to create a manor stone pile. Here is what you need:

Manor Kane:

20x Rock – 50x Stone

Once you’ve crafted your Manor Cairn, place it in the realm you want to designate as your home. You’ll then be able to return to your home realm whenever you need to, even if you’re away from your friend’s realm. Make sure you have your pickaxe with you so you can gather the materials you need to craft your Cairn.

Nightingale Homecoming

Returning to your home realm is pretty simple. Once you have set up your manor stone pile and spent time exploring other realms, you can easily return home.

Open the map with the M key. You will see a symbol on the left with a button underneath it to go to your resting place. Click on it to teleport back to your manor stone pile.

What is the state of mind in The Nightingale?

Realms in Nightingale are like different randomly created worlds where players can explore, gather resources, and complete story quests. These Realms are made up of various biomes, which are areas with specific characteristics. To select a biome, players need to interact with the Realm Card device near a portal and select the biome they want to visit.

Realms are an important part of Nightingale, providing players with a variety of types and biomes to explore. Realm Cards play an important role in shaping these Realms, affecting their characteristics and challenges. Nightingale is the latest survival game from Inflexion Games, combining exploration and combat to provide adventurous players with a vast world full of natural wonders.

In Nightingale, the Realm Card system allows players to influence the game’s random world generation, ensuring that each world is unique. Realm Cards are essential to exploring the Faewilds, providing different permutations of the Fae Realms.

How do I get a Realm Card in Nightingale?

Realm Cards in Nightingale are modifiers that affect how the world is generated. They affect biomes, enemy types, and various buffs or debuffs the player may encounter, making for a unique gameplay experience each time they are used.

In Nightingale, Realm Cards are divided into three categories: Biomes, Major Realms, and Minor Realms. When using a portal machine, you can select up to five cards, including one biome card and two each of the major and minor categories.

The Biome Card determines the basic layout of the area you are traveling to, with each biome offering different enemies, materials, and challenges. Available biomes include Forest, Desert, and Swamp.

The Primary Domain Card is the main parameter of the Domain and can be used to add NPC factions, enemy types, and points of interest. You can select up to two Primary Domain Cards.

Minor Realm Cards make subtle adjustments to the environment, such as increasing the number of enemy spawns or changing properties like weapon damage or stealth. There are over 50 Minor Realm Cards in Nightingale, offering a variety of play styles and challenges.

To get more realm cards, players need to complete quests and challenges. Realm cards are not easy to obtain, so players must use them wisely to fully enjoy the realm adventure.

Where can I find realm cards?

The player can obtain the basic Realm Cards in Nightingale through looting or crafting. Each Realm has Points of Interest (POIs), and Realm Cards can be found in chests and other containers. Abandoned human buildings or ruined elven buildings often contain chests containing Realm Cards, so it is worth exploring these areas thoroughly. In addition, the player can purchase some minor Realm Cards from Essence Merchants.

Fairy Towers and Sanctums of Power also contain Realm Cards, usually Biomes and Major Realm Cards. However, players must defeat bosses to obtain them, which can be challenging for a single player game. These POIs are marked by powered gates that drive away players with insufficient gear. If you cannot access a Sanctum of Power, consider improving your gear score first.

How to create a realm card?

Biome Realm Cards can be crafted at the Simple Enchanter Center in Nightingale. To craft a Realm Card, you will need the following materials:

  • Paper: Made from 2 bundles of wood on a simple saw table.
  • Ink: Made from refined pigments and glass mixed in a simple mortar.
  • Refined Pigment: Made from animal flesh in a simple mortar.
  • Glass: Made by melting gemstones in a simple furnace.

If you are unable to craft ink, you can use Bound Ichor dropped by bound enemies in the game. You can obtain the recipe for Simple Enchanter’s Focus from the Essence Merchant in your world.

Nightingale Gameplay

After a disaster on Earth, people flee to other worlds, each of which is randomly created. The player controls one of the travelers trying to return to Nightingale, a human settlement of the “Faewilds” before the disaster. The game is set in a Victorian gaslit fantasy world with a steampunk aesthetic.

To survive, players must forage for food, rest, and gather resources to craft tools. They can craft simple items, such as sheets, which do not require shelter but help restore strength. Umbrellas allow players to glide like Mary Poppins. Some mobs are not hostile unless attacked. Combat includes melee weapons and firearms, as well as dungeon exploration and raid-style combat.

Players can recruit non-player characters to help out and meet literary characters such as Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde to complete quests. With enough resources, players can travel between realms on dedicated servers, each with a different biome, such as desert or woodland. Realms can be customized using cards. The game can be played solo or in co-op with up to six players, supporting first-person and third-person perspectives.
