Empires of the Undergrowth’s story mode features a neat but simple upgrade system that lets you unlock genetic adaptations for your ants to improve your colony. You can make your ants bigger, stronger, and more agile to increase their strength, or you can unlock other ant species to bring more diversity to your colony. Where to upgrade ants in Empire Jungle
In Story Mode, when you are in the main Formicarium, there are two buttons on the top left of the screen. The top button is the mission or chapter select, while the bottom button is the adaptation button. Once you open it, you will see the adaptation menu.

In the Adaptations menu you will see the different types of ants, and you will naturally have the Queen, Worker, and Soldier ants unlocked. However, none of them have upgrades yet, but you can buy them using Royal Jelly by hovering over the tile under the specific ant you want to upgrade.
There are three blocks below the ants, representing the ants’ upgradeable levels. These three levels of upgrades will enhance the ants’ specialties. For example, upgrading soldier ants will make them stronger and deal more damage. Upgrading worker ants will make them stronger, faster, and more efficient in completing tasks.
These level upgrades will reflect what that particular ant does best, so if you have a more durable soldier ant, you can save more food because you won’t have to replenish your colony if the soldier ants don’t die.

These level upgrades will also have two different upgrade tiles next to them, these will be their ability slots. Each ant will have two ability slots, and you can choose two different abilities for each ability slot.
Some abilities are simply added attributes to your ants, but others can be game-changers for specific situations during a match. Overall, these upgrades and abilities are extremely important to your colony, and you’ll want to get as much Royal Jelly as possible to get all of these upgrades as quickly as possible. All upgrades require Royal Jelly, and they can only be obtained by playing in Story Mode.
