After consecutively finishing at the bottom of the table in previous seasons, both teams made major changes in the hope of breaking their trophy drought. KKR reintroduced an old saviour while SRH took a risk by bringing in a recent trophy winner. As the last two months have proven, both Gambhir and Cummins have proved to be wise moves. On the field, despite sharing similar batting philosophies, their bowling strategies and arsenals could not be more different. Despite a one-sided contest in Q1 recently, both teams understand that the prospect of Sunday’s game is completely different. With the trophy in the bag against the formidable Cummins-led side, Shreyas might have found himself cautiously looking back for potential threats.

KKR’s journey from opening to winning the 2024 IPL final
Under the guidance of head coach Chandrakant Pandit, the direction of Gautam Gambhir and the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer, KKR’s journey to the final of IPL 2024 has been remarkable. They have dominated the league and finished at the top with an impressive 20 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +1.428.
In the first qualifier held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, they proved their worth against Hyderabad. Led by a brilliant performance from Mitchell Starc, KKR restricted the Pat Cummings-led side to 159 runs in 19.3 overs. KKR won with 8 wickets in hand with 38 balls remaining and achieved the target. Driven by Starc’s resurgence and Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant strategy, key players like Sunil Narine, Andre Russell and Varun Chakravarty performed brilliantly, making KKR the favourites to reach the final.
In the final, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers thoroughly outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by restricting them to a record 113 runs. Venkatesh Iyer’s unbeaten knock of 52 off 26 balls played a major role in KKR’s third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. SRH’s aggressive batting strategy backfired on the grandest stage. Mitchell Starc took two of the three wickets that SRH lost in the powerplay. SRH suffered its fourth setback in the 10th over before Andre Russell delivered a crucial knock to Aiden Markram in the 11th over.
