Throughout the game, Anita faces off against a monster that is connected to the cherry blossoms and covered in petals, which adds to the suspense, but the game lacks combat and is played from a first-person perspective. The story revolves around themes such as bullying, the effects of social media, and suicide.

These heavy topics form the core of the narrative, making it an emotional experience. Silent Hill: The Short Message received mixed reviews. Some praised its visuals, atmospheric elements, and theme, especially considering it was available for free.

The game’s unique narrative and free-to-play nature make it worth checking out for players interested in exploring the darker side of the teenage experience.

Is Silent Hill: A Short Message good?

Silent Hill: The Brief Message offers a worthwhile gaming experience for horror fans. This is a free game from Konami that explores themes such as self-harm, suicide, and abuse, so it is important to approach it with caution. The game’s storyline is well-written and has the potential to keep players engaged, although the gameplay is not groundbreaking.

You play as Anita, searching for her friend Maya in an abandoned apartment building in the fictional city of Kettenstadt. The game incorporates modern elements such as text messaging, as well as references to real-world events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, some of the original members of the Silent Hill development team were involved in the project, giving it a certain authenticity.

The game has two main modes of play: intense chase sequences, where players must dodge terrifying monsters, and exploration sequences, where players move around in a first-person perspective. While the chase sequences may be familiar to fans of horror games, the monsters are pretty terrifying in their design.

Silent Hill: The Brief Message is a great start to Konami’s return to the series and is definitely worth checking out, especially since it’s available as a free download for PS5 owners from the PlayStation Store.

Silent Hill: Text Message

Silent Hill: Short Messages takes place in the fictional German town of Kettenstadt, and focuses on an abandoned apartment building called The Villa. A young woman named Anita receives a message from her late friend Maya, an online graffiti artist known as CB (Cherry Blossom), who urges Anita to meet up at The Villa. As Anita chases after Maya’s work, she recalls her own struggles and bullying online. Throughout the game, a monster covered in cherry blossoms chases her.

As Anita explores, she receives a call from another friend, Amelie, and learns that Maya has committed suicide. Anita is confused by the text messages from Maya and finds Maya’s last piece of art on the roof of the villa. Anita tries to imitate Maya’s jump, but wakes up to find herself back at the villa. Maya tells her that they can’t leave until she finds “it”.

Anita revisits her memories and realizes that she was jealous of Maya and Amelie’s friendship. She learns that Katernstatt is cursed and finds a letter from Maya in which she pleads with Amelie for help. Anita confesses her crime to Amelie and then jumps again. Back at the villa, Anita recalls her family’s troubled past, where her mother neglected and abused her and her brother.

She discovers that Maya plans to create a piece of art for her, proving that Maya is not ignoring her. Anita is chased by the monster one last time, but she stops herself from jumping and clears the fog, returning to reality. Later, Emily’s social media posts suggest that both she and Anita have left Kettenstadt to go to college and start over.
