Currently signed to New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), he is the Open Heavyweight Champion for the fourth time. Tama Tonga rose to fame as a founding member of the famous wrestling faction Bullet Club and occasionally competed in Impact Wrestling in the United States.
He is the nephew and adopted son of legendary wrestler Haku, and formed the tag team Guerrillas of Destiny (GOD) with his cousin Tanga Loa. In addition to NJPW, Tama Tonga also showcased her skills in Mexico’s Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and won the CMLL World Tag Team Championship twice. With a diverse career, he also holds the ROH World Tag Team Championship, making him one of the few wrestlers to have had success in NJPW, CMLL, and ROH.

Tama Tonga’s early life
Tama Tonga, also known as Alipate Aloisio Leone, had a unique start in life. He and his brother Taura were born in Tonga and adopted by their aunt and her husband, the famous wrestler Tonga Fifita (also known as “Haku” or “Meng”). They adopted them in 1991 during a visit to Tonga and later moved to Poinciana, Florida.
Growing up, Tama Tonga lived with his biological cousin and adopted brother, Tevita, and his older sister, Vika. After graduating from Phoenix High School, Tama Tonga chose a different path, joining the U.S. Air Force and serving as a B-2 Psychic mechanic at Whiteman Air Force Base for six years. It was during this time that he and his brother Tevita decided to pursue their dream of becoming professional wrestlers after their military and college studies were over.

In 2022, Bullet Club split leading to the formation of Guerrilla Destiny. Tama Tonga achieved personal success, holding the NEVER Open Heavyweight Championship multiple times, and announced her departure from NJPW in 2024 after winning the championship for the fourth time at Wrestle Kingdom 18.
