Gadkari expressed frustration at the rising number of accidents, admitting that despite the initial goal of reducing fatalities by 50% by the end of 2024, the situation had worsened. He stressed that road safety remains a critical issue in India, with around 178,000 lives lost every year, mainly among people aged 18 to 34 years.
