Manmohan Singh: Biography, Political career, Books and Education

Manmohan Singh is the 14th Prime Minister of India. He is a famous economist. Singh is the first Sikh to hold office and the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a five-year term.

Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in a family of Shri Gurmukh Singh & Smt. Amrit Kaur, Garh, Punjab. During the partition of India and Pakistan, his family traveled to Amritsar, India. In 1958, Manmohan Singh married Gurshalan Kaur. They have three daughters: Amrit Singh, Daman Singh and Upinder Singh.

Manmohan Singh studied at Hindu College. He was a brilliant student and always ranked first in his educational career. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Punjab University in 1952 and 1954 respectively.
