Merry Christmas Comments
Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Merry Christmas is a riveting noir film about an unlikely couple, Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi. Based on Frederic Dard’s novel Caged Bird, the story revolves around Albert and Maria’s chance encounter on Christmas Eve in Mumbai.
The film deftly weaves melancholy and witty dialogues about unfulfilled love and heartache, gradually building a sense of suspense. Raghavan, known for his Hitchcockian style, weaves literary and cinematic elements into the narrative to create a spellbinding visual experience.
While Katrina and Vijay give great performances in playing characters with secrets, the translation of this noir from novel to screen is slightly lacking. Nevertheless, the anticipation of the crime and the unexpected twists make Merry Christmas a film worth watching, with Vijay Sethupathi’s performance being a highlight.
