Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire is a new film directed by Adam Wingard. It was produced by Legendary Pictures and will be released theatrically by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is a sequel to 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, part of the MonsterVerse series, the seventh film in the franchise and the fifth film in the franchise. It is also the 38th film in the Godzilla series, the 13th film in the King Kong series, and the fifth Godzilla film produced entirely by an American film studio.
The film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Carrie Hottle, Alex Fiennes and Fala Chen. Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Carrie Hottle return from the previous film. In the story, Godzilla and King Kong must join forces to fight a new threat that threatens the inner Earth and the surface.
Due to the strong performance of Godzilla vs. Kong in both theaters and streaming services during the COVID-19 pandemic, Legendary Pictures decided to film a sequel in March 2022. They announced that filming would begin later this year. In May 2022, it was revealed that Adam Wingard would return to direct and Dan Stevens had been cast in the lead role. Filming took place from July to November 2022 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be released in theaters on March 29, 2024.
