History of National Grammar Day
National Grammar Day was founded by novelist and teacher Martha Brockenbrough, who also founded the Association for Promoting Good Grammar (SPOGG) in 2008. The day chosen on March 4 is not only convenient on the calendar, but also in eager commands: “March Fort” and celebrate and enhance the syntax.

Themes of 2025
Although National Grammar Day has no annual theme, its overall slogan is always the same: “March 4th parade speaks well, writes well, and helps others do the same!” This year’s theme also highlights the importance of grammar in terms of clarity and creativity in creative communication.

Several importances are emphasized in compliance with National Grammar Day:
- Clarity of communication: Correct grammar helps convey ideas accurately. For example, a rogue comma can have a huge impact in meaning – “Let’s eat, grandma!” with “Let’s eat grandma!”
- Nostalgia connection: People often learn grammar rules with childhood through mnemonics, songs, or educational performances such as Schoolhouse Rock. Recapturing these rules again will cause nostalgia attitudes and keep their meaning fresh.
- Respect for the diversity of language: Although English is the subject of the day, it also promotes an appreciation of the grammatical rules of other languages and acknowledges that good structures can be better understood anywhere.
- Promoting Continuing Education: National Grammar Day encourages people to hone their grammar skills by engaging in activities such as proofreading, mastering new rules (e.g., “Lay vs. Lie”), and even debating controversial issues such as Oxford commas.
Celebration method
- Practice a new rule: Take the time to master difficult grammar rules or practice on online quizzes.
- Stage grammar game: engage in activities such as error detection or grammar debate.
- Proof of Purpose: Please enjoy your writing or publication to get errors.
- Share Words: Use a hashtag like #NationalGrammarday and other hashtags to get wrong tips or memorable examples in the grammar or share good tips or memorable examples.

National Grammar Day 2025 has nothing to do with corrections, but rather a celebration of language as a means of connection and creativity. Practicing good grammar today is respecting the efforts made by all who struggle to ensure language purity while allowing it to connect with everyone in a way that is enjoyable at the same time.
