Maa Kushmanda is revered as the creator of the universe. According to Hindu mythology, before the formation of the universe, everything was in a state of darkness. It is believed that Maa Kushmandar created the universe with her divine smile and brought light to it.
She is usually depicted with eight hands holding chakra, gada (mace), lotus, bow and arrow, kamandalu, amrita Kalash (pot of immortal nectar) and japa mala (rosary beads).
What is the story and significance of Maa Kushmanda?
According to legend, after defeating the demon Jatukasur and his army of Maa Chandraganta, the universe was engulfed in darkness and there was no sign of life. To restore light and energy, Maa Parvati took the form of Maa Kushmandar and brought warmth and radiance to the universe.
