Chaitra Navratri symbolizes the story of the battle with Mahishasura through the goddess Durga, good at vicious victory. The story behind this festival is about the battle between the goddess Durga and the demon Mahisura. When God could not defeat him, they sought help from Goddess Durga due to the gospel given by Lord Brahma. She rode the lion and had a powerful battle that lasted for 9 days and nights before finally defeating Mahishasura.

Regional practice in India
- Gujarat: Known for its vibrant Garba dance and fasting rituals. People worship a clay pot called GARBOrepresents the uterus and the source of life.
