Armand Duplantis is a Swedish-American pole vaulter born on November 10, 1999, who currently holds the world records for both the outdoor (6.25 m) and indoor (6.22 m) events. His breaking of the pole vault world record at the 2024 Paris Olympics cemented his place as one of the greatest pole vaulters of all time, an incredible achievement. Notably, Armand is also one of only 11 elite athletes to have achieved a rare triple feat: winning the youth, junior and senior world titles. Armand Gustave “Mondo” Duplantis was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, into a family with a strong athletic tradition. Armand’s father, Greg Duplantis, was a pole vaulter with a personal best of 5.80 meters, and his mother, Helena (née Hedlund), was a heptathlete and Swedish volleyball player, who fostered their love of sports from an early age.

Armand’s siblings also excelled in sports: his older brothers Andreas and Antoine, and his younger sister Joanna. Andreas followed in his father’s footsteps as a pole vaulter, representing Sweden at the World Youth Championships and World Junior Championships. Meanwhile, Antoine started out as a pole vaulter before switching to baseball in high school and later becoming Louisiana State University’s career hits leader in 2019.
