Robocop Rogue City Chip Merging, How to Find and Use Motherboards and Chips in Robocop Rogue City?

RoboCop Rogue City Chip Merger

In RoboCop: Rogue City, chip merging is a game feature that allows players to combine three OCP chips to create a new chip. However, many players find this feature to be rather random and not very helpful. When you merge chips, the result is often a chip that’s inferior to the one you used, and the orientation of the new chip seems to be completely random.

This has left many players confused about its purpose and use. Some even recommend ignoring chip merging and instead collecting different chips for different board setups, as the results are usually not worth the effort and will drain your chip resources. Chip merging seems to be an unreliable and somewhat confusing aspect of the game.

How to find and use motherboards and chips in RoboCop Rogue City?

In RoboCop: Rogue City, you can use motherboards and chips to enhance RoboCop’s pistol, the Auto-9. Here’s how to find and use them:

Motherboard and chips:

  • Motherboards are items that can be used to upgrade the Auto-9 pistol. You’ll get your first board early in the game’s story, and you can find more boards as you explore new areas or earn them as quest rewards. Each motherboard has a unique layout and offers different benefits.
  • Chips are components placed on the motherboard to enhance functionality. You can find chips in OCP containers scattered throughout the game.

Create the perfect motherboard:

  • There are nodes on the motherboard that provide various gains, and the strength of those gains depends on the chips you attach. The chip has 1-4 gates to allow energy to flow, and must be connected to a power source to receive rewards.
  • You don’t necessarily need a matching chip for each node. If you need a specific shape (eg L-shaped) but only have a chip with 3 or 4 gates, that’s ok too.
  • The ultimate goal is to place high-value chips on each node without triggering any red nodes.
  • Supplying power to a red node results in a penalty, which can be quite severe. To avoid this, use dead-end nodes to prevent power from reaching the red nodes. Some motherboards may force you to take penalties if you want all the buffs.

Choose the best node:

  • The most valuable nodes are those that enhance weapon damage, and many motherboards have multiple nodes of this type. Consider using low value chips at nodes like magazine size. The Auto-9 already has a 50-round magazine by default, which is usually enough.
  • Look for game-changing nodes highlighted in orange, usually at the edges of the circuit. These offer powerful bonuses such as autofeeders, piercing rounds, and even effects like increased gore.

Handling low-value chips:

  • You can combine multiple low-value chips using the chip merging feature on the motherboard screen. This is a great way to get rid of lower value chips. Discard 3 of them to create a completely new chip. However, the results of this merging process appear to be random. It seems that using high-value chips in the merging process does not necessarily result in better chip quality, so it is recommended to use low-value chips for merging.
