What is the significance of Sharad Purnima?
Sharad Purnima is considered one of the most spiritually powerful nights in the Hindu calendar. This full moon night is considered very auspicious and one can seek blessings from the gods, pray for health, prosperity and happiness, and perform pious activities. In some parts of India, it is believed that the rays of the full moon on Sharad Purnima have healing properties and bring positive energy to those who bathe in its rays.
A special tradition of Sharad Purnima is making kheer, a sweet beet made from rice, milk and sugar, sometimes with cardamom, nuts and raisins added. The kheer is left outside under the moonlight as the moonlight on this night is believed to have healing powers as per Ayurvedic and Hindu beliefs. After spending a few hours under the moonlight, the paneer is shared with the family the next morning as a blessing and a nourishing treat.
