Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Wishlist: 10 Characters, Places & More We Want

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.After the success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the franchise has plenty of exciting options to explore in Sonic 4. Following the debut of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scenes have introduced both Amy Rose and Metal Sonic to the franchise. Thanks to this ending to Sonic the Hedgehog 3, there are several possibilities as to what the already confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will present.

After everything that happened in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, there are still several more iconic characters and locations from the games that would make for welcome surprises in the future. There are also some ways that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can improve upon the source material and the films preceding it with much-needed changes to the characters. The possibilities are all but endless at this point given how much lore there is, but there are a handful of things that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could do to make it a very special sequel.

Stardust Speedway Appears

This Stage Is The Iconic Battleground For Sonic And Metal Sonic

Close

Since Metal Sonic made his debut in Sonic CD, one of his most notable moments in the game and the franchise as a whole was his battle against Sonic in Stardust Speedway. This neon metropolis ruled by Doctor Eggman made for an exciting battleground near the end of Sonic CD, as the blue hedgehog raced against his robot doppelganger in a fight on the highways across this colorful city.

Recreating this battle for live-action would be a terrific slice of fanservice for fans of both Sonic and Metal Sonic.

The stage also featured a killer theme song that cemented it as a classic part of Sonic’s long video game history. Recreating this battle for live-action would be a terrific slice of fanservice for fans of both Sonic and Metal Sonic. It would also make for an exhilarating fight/chase akin to Sonic and Shadow’s first fight through the streets of Tokyo in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

More Alien Worlds From The Sonic Universe Are Introduced

It’s Time For Sonic’s Cinematic Universe To Grow Beyond Earth

Close

After three films and one spinoff show, Sonic’s live-action adventures have been very much limited to the Big Blue Marble. Though Sonic has Rings that can instantly transport him anywhere in the universe, the Sonic film franchise has only explored three worlds so far, including Earth. These planets are just the ones limited to Sonic’s Safe Worlds Map.

Since Sonic’s cinematic universe has only just begun to unfold, the planets and realms outside of Sonic’s current home world remain a great mystery. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could shake things up by having Sonic and his pals leave Earth’s orbit to explore the other alien planets across the cosmos in their quest to save the universe. Doing so could allow the writers to introduce the other anthropomorphic characters from the Sonic games to the world of the films.

Shadow The Hedgehog Returns

This Fan-Favorite Character Should Continue His Journey

Close

Shadow is shown to have survived the Eclipse Cannon’s destruction at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While the film’s ending could show him branching off into his own solo adventures, it should also show Shadow returning to join the fight in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Both Shadow’s character and Keanu Reeves’s voice acting performance as the black hedgehog were huge highlights of Sonic‘s third film.

Having Shadow return in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would satisfy the character’s many fans. However, it would also continue the journey that only just began for him in the third movie. Since the games focused on Shadow discovering his true identity and his purpose as the protector of Earth, the next Sonic film should further adapt Shadow’s arc for film.

Silver The Hedgehog Appears

This Time-Traveling Hedgehog Needs To Be Brought To The Present

Close

Having debuted in the critically panned 2006 game Sonic the Hedgehog, the time-traveling Silver didn’t appeal to gamers at the time due to his character’s difficult gameplay and has been very much sidelined since his debut. However, Sonic the Hedgehog has gained a cult following among fans, with Silver being a highlight of the game due to his character’s story.

Also, thanks to psychokinetic abilities, Silver is one of the few people who could rival Sonic and Shadow in combat, which could make him a formidable adversary should he make the jump to live-action. Metal Sonic’s first game, Sonic CD, did dabble in time travel.

Should Sonic the Hedgehog 4 adapt Sonic CD for the big screen, it could allow the film’s writers to faithfully introduce Silver as a warrior going back in time to prevent a dark future from occurring. While some creative liberties may have to be taken, having Silver appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could reinvigorate the character and give him the spotlight he deserves.

Mephiles The Dark Appears

One Of Sonic’s Darkest Villains Deserves A Spotlight

Close

Like Silver the Hedgehog, Mephiles the Dark is a terrific but underrated character due to debuting in the widely hated Sonic the Hedgehog game in 2006. Once a part of the sun deity Solaris, this demonic, time-traveling entity took the form of Shadow the Hedgehog and sought to regain his true form and destroy all of time and space. Sadistic and manipulative, Mephiles is a haunting and powerful villain with no other desire than to cause destruction simply because he can.

He also serves as the perfect foil to Shadow’s character, embodying the latter’s anger towards humanity as he tempts him with the promise of revenge. All in all, Mephiles is the Sonic franchise’s closest version of the Devil, making him a perfect villain to include in the Sonic films, especially now that Shadow has been introduced.

5

Chaos Appears

This Monstrous Deity Is One of Sonic’s Greatest Villains

Close

Chaos is one of the most popular and powerful villains in the Sonic franchise, and he would be a compelling and fearsome adversary in the films. Introduced in Sonic Adventure, this mutant Chao was once the immortal guardian of the Master Emerald, only to be consumed by evil after the Echidnas harmed his fellow Chao in their pursuit of conquest.

Harnessing the power of the Chaos Emeralds, Chaos wiped them all out and nearly destroyed the world, making him known as the “God of Destruction.” Since the Chao were referenced in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the filmmakers can dig deeper into Sonic lore and bring Chaos’s storyline to theaters in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Chaos would stand out from the other villains in the Sonic films due to his tragic backstory, silent demeanor, and primal desire for destruction. While it is unclear how Chaos could fit into a story involving Amy and Metal Sonic, the least the film could do is set up Chaos’s future appearance in a post-credits scene.

Neo Metal Sonic Appears

Metal Sonic Should Reach His Ultimate Form

Close

If Metal Sonic is going to be the main antagonist of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, he should, at the very least, attain the form of Neo Metal Sonic. First appearing in Sonic Heroes, this version of Metal Sonic copied the data of Sonic and his friends, including Shadow. B copying the power of Chaos, Neo Metal Sonic was even able to grow into a giant, flying mechanical dragon known as Metal Overlord.

Having Neo Metal Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can help make the story faithfully adapt Sonic Heroes. Also, since Sonic the Hedgehog 3 couldn’t feature a giant kaiju like the Biolizard as the story’s final boss, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can easily make up for that by having Neo Metal transform into his monstrous final form against Sonic and his team.

3

Tails And Knuckles Have Bigger Roles

Sonic’s Partners Need To Grow As Characters In The Next Film

Close

Since Sonic’s third film focused more on him, Shadow, and the Robotniks, both Tails and Knuckles’s roles in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were much smaller than the ones they had in the previous film. On top of that, the fourth Sonic film seems set to focus heavily on the blue hedgehog alongside Amy and Metal Sonic. Tails and Knuckles are at risk of being sidelined once again, which is a fate unbefitting for the two of them.

Tails and Knuckles have proven themselves strong and capable characters who can carry stories and handle themselves without Sonic.

Tails and Knuckles have proven themselves strong and capable characters who can carry stories and handle themselves without Sonic. Knuckles was even able to lead his own TV show on Max before Sonic the Hedgehog 3. If Sonic goes off on an adventure with Amy in the next film, it would probably be best for Tails and Knuckles to do the same in order to help their friend save the world again and grow as individual characters.

2

Jim Carrey Returns As Eggman Nega

Jim Carrey Can Play A Third Robotnik In Sonic’s Fourth Film

Close

Jim Carrey has long been a highlight of the Sonic film franchise, having played both Ivo and Gerald Robotnik throughout its three films. Though both characters seemed to have finally died in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, there is a way for Carrey to return to the Sonic franchise and continue his wickedly wacky antics. Carrey should play Eggman Nega as the villain of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Essentially Sonic‘s version of Kang the Conqueror, Eggman Nega is Ivo Robotnik’s descendant born in the distant future, who travels back in time to destroy the world. Like Gerald, Nega is very different from Ivo, holding a grudge against the latter for besmirching the Robotnik family name. Nega Eggman’s appearance would allow Carrey to star in the Sonic franchise at least one more time. The character can exist, regardless of what has happened in the films so far.

Ivo had little to zero knowledge of his family in the Sonic films, not even knowing about Gerald or Maria’s existence until Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This ambiguity makes it possible for at least one Robotnik to still be around and continue their family’s bloodline in the Sonic film franchise, culminating in Eggman Nega’s appearance in the distant future. He could even be the creator of the Metal Sonics seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

A New Take On Amy Rose

Amy Needs To Be Improved Upon Her Video Game Counterpart

Close

In many Sonic games, Amy Rose has been defined mainly by her unrequited love for Sonic. She has been seen constantly pursuing him around the world just to be near him, causing her to get caught up in the battles Sonic faces at the time. Though she has proven herself a righteous character and a powerful fighter with her giant hammer, Amy’s character seems more swept up in Sonic’s adventures and her romantic desires for him.

To appeal to a modern audience, Amy needs to be more than just an overzealous love interest for Sonic. She did appear to save Sonic, who seemed to have zero knowledge of her, in the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. This implies that the filmmakers have already given Amy goals beyond her love for Sonic, instead having her want to fight to stop the Metal Sonics. This post-credits scene has already put Amy’s character in the right direction, which could make her a highlight in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
