Octopath Traveler 2 was released on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in 2023, and the game hasn’t had a major update in a while. Today, a surprise update for Octopath Traveler 2 has been released on Steam, adding some boss fights with some familiar characters.
This update has not been announced in advance and is currently only available on Steam. Below are the full patch notes for update version 1.1.

- Implemented new tutorial text for update additions.

The “Extra Battles” section is the highlight here, as this adds three extra boss battles that can be played after completing the game. If you’re a fan of the series, I highly recommend going in blindly, as you’ll see some familiar faces that are best left as surprises.

The following three boss battles were added in Octopath Traveler Update 1.1.
- Olberic, Tressa, Ophilia and Alfyn in Octopath Traveler 1
- Therion, Primrose, H’aanit and Cyrus in Octopath Traveler 1
- “True Vide”, an enhanced version of the regular final boss of Octopath Traveler 2
Octopath Traveler 2 has also been confirmed to be coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, and is expected to be released in early 2024.
This update will most likely be released alongside that version, and we’ll most likely see a release date announcement during the Summer Game Fest in the coming days.
