Swadloon Finally Gets the Respect it Deserves With Latest Japanese Pokemon Center Goods

With over 1,000 Pokémon, it’s inevitable that many of them are underused and underappreciated. Luckily, creative merchandise can help put some of these Pokémon on the map, and the cute and goofy Swadloon is the latest beneficiary of this phenomenon.

Pokémon Center merchandise stores have popped up around the world and online, but Japan remains the go-to place for anyone looking to buy Pokémon merchandise. Japanese stores still produce the largest variety of merchandise and items to go with it. The recent “BUG OUT!” collection has all the items you’d expect from any product line, such as stickers, pouches, and clothing. The bug-type Pokémon chosen to adorn these trinkets range from beloved Volcarona, Snom, and Scizor to lesser-known Pokémon, including Dottler and Pheromosa.

The real star of the show, however, is an adorable hood shaped just like Swadloon. The entire Sewaddle evolution line of Pokemon revolves around sewing and bundling; honestly, it’s surprising that a hood like this hasn’t been released until now. But as the saying goes, better late than never — in fact, the wait may have had a positive impact on the design of the hood. The models shown in the product images are each over 5 feet tall, which means the hood is designed for adults rather than children. While Pokemon merchandise aimed at older fans isn’t uncommon, it wasn’t when Swadloon was first released.

The only thing to worry about with this hood is whether or not it will be sold at Pokemon Centers outside of Japan. Standing nearly three feet tall (and more than three and a half feet long), this Larvesta plush toy from the BUG OUT! series has actually appeared as a pre-order item on the US Pokemon Center website — but so far, no other merchandise has been listed to go with it. Of all the recent Pokemon collaborations and merchandise — like the Krispy Kreme and Le Creuset partnership — this one is the most likely to be released internationally, even if it takes a while. All we can do is hope, or, like Swadloon, try to sew one of our own.
