The early life of that Mexican OT
Virgil René Gazca was born in Bay City, Texas. Tragically, his mother, Sophia Ann Gazca, passed away in 2007 in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. When Gasca was young, his father was in prison. Shelby Stewart of the Houston Chronicle noted that Gasca went through hard times growing up in the neighborhood. He faced challenges such as betrayal from his family and struggled with drug addiction.

After graduating from high school, Gasca, who performs under the name That Mexican OT, began making his own hip-hop songs and sharing them online. He has released several mixtapes such as South Texas Project, Southside Steppin, 1 Double 0, and Nonsense and Mexican Shit. Remixes of his own tracks and other artists’ songs helped him gain more attention.
On July 28, 2023, he released his new album “Lonestar Luchador”, which contains the outstanding song “Johnny Dang”. The song, a collaboration between Paul Wall and Drodi, tells the story of the famous jeweler Johnny Dang. Upon its release, “Johnny Dang” ranked at No. 65 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking the first time that a song by That Mexican OT and Drodi had charted at the same time.
The song’s music video has been viewed over 20 million times on YouTube and played over 36 million times on Spotify. Lonestar Luchador debuted at No. 59 on the Billboard 200 chart. To celebrate the release of “Johnny Dang” and the album, That Mexican OT will embark on a 20-city tour in the United States in October 2023.
