Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 gameplay
The gameplay of Modern Warfare III follows the familiar style of its predecessor Modern Warfare II and the wider Call of Duty series. The single-player campaign combines linear missions with open-world sections, called “Open Combat Missions”. In these missions, players can choose from a variety of approaches, from direct combat to stealth tactics. Tactical maps help identify objectives and equipment locations.
Multiplayer includes all 16 maps from Modern Warfare 2, with map voting and increased player health. The “Red Dot” minimap returns, allowing players to spot enemies firing unsuppressed weapons. New features include the ability to cancel slide animations and classic modes like “Kill Confirmed” and “Hardpoint.” A new mode, “Cutthroat” for three teams of three, is introduced, as well as a 32v32 “Ground War” mode and the return of the “War” mode.
The PvE Zombies mode developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games features an open-world structure. Up to 24 players form squads on a large map to fight zombies and AI-controlled human enemies. The goal is to complete objectives, collect loot, and evacuate within a certain time. The map has areas of varying difficulty, and ends with an “Aether Storm” after 45 minutes, triggering a 15-minute evacuation window. Classic Zombies elements such as weapon wall purchases, Perk-a-Cola drinks, and mystery boxes are all present, with a new focus on story missions and the ability to carry acquired items into subsequent matches.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Plot
In the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the story is set in November 2023, when the terrorist Vladimir Makarov is released by the Russian private military company Konni Group. The plot involves tracking down Makarov’s plans, which include the creation of deadly chemical weapons. The story unfolds in various locations, culminating in Makarov’s plan to destroy the Gora Dam in Verdansk. The story involves characters such as John Price, Thorpe and Farah, as well as unexpected alliances and betrayals.
The Multiplayer/Warzone narrative continues in December 2023 with the resurgence of Konni in Zaravan, Urzikstan. Zombies mode introduces a subplot involving arms dealer Victor Zakhaev and a substance called “Aetherium”. It evolves into a mission to stop Zakhaev from weaponizing Aetherium and explore connections to past events involving a dark Aether entity known as “The Forsaken”. The story reveals unexpected twists, alliances, and an ongoing battle against the Undead threat.
