In episode 16 of The Matchmaker, the series ends with a surprising twist. In the finale of “Red Lady”, Jung-woo and Soon-deok, who everyone thought were dead, unexpectedly reunited. Shunde actually made a deal with her mother-in-law to fake death and start a new life. With the king’s help, she makes a new start. Jung-woo believed she was gone and the king gave her a new identity and asked to continue matchmaking. When he visits another matchmaker’s home, he realizes that this is where Shunde grew up. Then he hears her voice and they find each other again and decide to help others find love while also discovering love themselves.

Although the show ends on a hopeful note for Jung-woo and Soon-deok, some things remain unresolved. The audience felt a sense of disappointment because the villain So Hyun did not face any consequences for his actions. The whole show is built with suspense surrounding her crime and a special poison, but by the end, she’s not punished in any way and that part of the story is not complete.
