Vaccine Wars Ending Explained and Spoilers

The “vaccine war” ended with India’s successful development of a vaccine, COVAXIN, to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the vaccine faced skepticism and strong opposition, partly due to media reports and the lack of approval by the World Health Organization. This led to international travel barriers for vaccinated Indians.

The climax of the film occurs at a press conference where officials from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) discuss these challenges. They defend the effectiveness of the vaccine and debunk misinformation. This moment is crucial in dispelling negative perceptions and restoring confidence in COVAXIN. The media censorship portrayed in the film is noteworthy, especially that of journalist Rohini Dhulia. Her questioning of the effectiveness of the vaccine and challenging the credibility of the scientific community has sparked criticism of media practices and the influence of the pharmaceutical lobby.

In a dramatic turn of events, the film sees a key figure and leader, Professor Balram, rebut the negative media coverage. He emphasises that the scientific community’s commitment to the nation’s well-being takes precedence over government policy. The Supreme Court intervenes, demanding the removal of negative news about COVAXIN and placing a gag order. This is portrayed as a vindication of the scientists’ efforts. The film ends on a personal note, revealing the impact of the pandemic on the scientists’ families. The film also touches on the mental health issues faced by their children, highlighting the often overlooked personal sacrifices made by the “warriors”.

The final scene symbolizes the culmination of the collective ordeal, showing Professor Balram’s conciliatory gesture to Dr. Priya Abraham. This gesture represents the triumph of science over adversity and underscores the resilience and dedication of the scientific community during one of the most challenging periods in recent history.

Vaccine Wars Conspiracy

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a team of dedicated scientists from India’s biomedical laboratories embarked on a critical mission to develop an indigenous vaccine. Dr. Balram Bhargava, Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), led the high-stakes project in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Bharat Biotech.

At the heart of the vaccine effort is Dr. Priya Abraham, director of the Indian Council of Medical Research’s National Institute of Virology, who leads a scientific team that includes virologists Dr. Sreelekshmy Mohandas, Dr. Nivedita Gupta and Dr. Pragya Yadav, as well as epidemiologists and infectious disease scientists Dr. Rajni Kant Srivastava, Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, Dr. Samiran Panda, Dr. Varsha Potdar and Dr. Enna Dogra Gupta.

The vaccine, called BBV152, is made from a SARS-CoV-2 strain (NIV-2020-770) obtained from tourists arriving in New Delhi. The team meticulously sequenced the “Vero CCL-81” cells and deposited the resulting genome sequence into the GISAID database. Their hard work paid off, and they announced the successful development of an inactivated whole-virion SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, BBV152.

The vaccine showed promising results, eliciting neutralizing antibody responses in animal studies, and entered Phase I clinical trials against hCoV-19/India/2020770. This story shows the unremitting efforts of these scientists in a race against time to fight the global epidemic, demonstrating the spirit of cooperation and scientific strength in the face of adversity.
