The feature was reported by WABetaInfo, which mentioned: “With the latest update of WhatsApp for iOS and Android, WhatsApp has introduced a feature that allows users to record and share longer voice notes through status updates. The feature increases the duration of each voice note to 1 minute, allowing users to share their updates without having to record multiple times.”
How does the new feature work?
Recording: The process is similar to sending a voice message in a chat. You simply press and hold the microphone button on the status creation screen to record your message.
Length indicator: An onscreen indicator may show the remaining recording time, helping you stay within the one-minute limit.
Cancel: If you make a mistake or change your mind, you can swipe up on the record button to cancel the recording and start over.
What are the benefits of longer voice notes?
- Share more complex thoughts: With the extra time, you can share more complex thoughts, stories, or announcements through your status.
- Enhanced accessibility: This feature benefits users who find it easier to create voice messages than type text.
- More engaging statuses: Voice annotations can add a personal touch and make your statuses more interactive with your contacts.
WABetaInfo mentioned: “We believe that the ability to record and share longer voice notes eliminates the need for users to split messages into multiple shorter recordings. This enhances the communication process and is more convenient and time-saving for those who frequently share audio updates with their contacts. We believe this feature is designed to allow users to share their updates in a single, uninterrupted voice note, ensuring their message is clearer and more cohesive.”
What is the availability of this feature?
WhatsApp’s expanded voice memos feature is rolling out to a limited number of users on Android and iOS devices. A wider rollout to all users is expected in the coming days.
WABetaInfo states: “Some users who install the latest update for WhatsApp for Android from the Google Play Store and the latest update for WhatsApp for iOS from the App Store will be able to use the ability to record and send voice messages of up to one minute to update their status. This feature will be rolled out to more users in the coming days.”
