Resume Raman’s Anniversary of Birth 2023: The birth anniversary of CV Raman is commemorated on November 7 every year. He is popular for his Nobel Prize-winning theory, known as the Raman effect. CV Raman became the second Indian to hold Rabindranath Tagore as the Nobel Prize winner. In addition, to celebrate the exemplary discovery, November 28 each year is considered National Science Day.

What is the Raman effect?
- The Raman effect is the change in the wavelength of light that occurs when the beam is deflected by the molecule.
- When a beam of light passes through a transparent sample of dust-free compounds.
- Next, a small portion of the light appears in the direction of the event (coming) beam.
- Most scattered light is constant wavelength.
- After that, a small portion appeared with a different wavelength from the incident light.
- This is the result of the Raman effect.
- In 1928, this phenomenon was named after the Indian physicist Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman. He is the first to publish an observation about the effect.
- Austrian physicist Adolf Semekal theoretically described the effects of 1923.

More information about the Raman phenomenon
- The phenomenon was first observed by Russian physicists Leonid Mandelstam and Grigory Landsberg one week before Raman.
- However, it was not until a few months after Raman that scientists released its results.
- Raman’s theory is one of the easiest to understand incident light, which consists of particles or photons (energy proportional to frequency) that affects the molecules of the sample.
Detailed information about the Raman effect
- Although most encounters are elastic, photons are scattered within the full energy and frequency.
- In some cases, the molecule occupies energy or places energy on photons.
- They then scatter with reduced or enhanced energy, thus at lower or higher frequencies.
- Therefore, frequency shifts are measured based on the amount of energy involved between the initial and final stages of the scattering molecule.

Bottom line
The Raman effect elucidates the inelastic scattering of light in the light wavelength of light by molecularly deflecting the beam after it passes through transparent medium.
This phenomenon explains how the wavelengths of these scattered rays differ from event rays.
Several chemists around the world, including physicists, use Raman spectroscopy to obtain information about different materials and their trends in scattered light.
Dr. CV Raman discovered the theory of life-changing by light or photon scattering, the Raman effect of February 28, 1928. Raman conducted this experiment with KS Krishnan, surprisingly without sharing the awards, but was mentioned even in the Nobel speech.
About Resume Raman
- National Science Day will begin on February 28 to remember the Raman effect discovered by physicist CV Raman, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
- He is the second Indian to become a Nobel Prize winner after Rabindranath Tagore.
- National Science Day aims to disseminate information about science and its importance among people.
- In 1986, the First National Science Day observed on February 28 that the National Science and Technology Commission requested the commemoration of Indian physicist Raman.
- This day highlights people’s awareness of the use and importance of science in daily life and provides appropriate platforms for opportunities for those who wish to pursue careers in research, science and technology.
