The youngest captain in IPL history is Virat Kohli, who led Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) in just 22 years and 4 months in 2011. He initially took over without Daniel Vettori and later became a full-time captain of the RCB in 2013.

Steve Smith became the second year IPL captain when he led Pune Warriors India in 2012 in 22 and 11 months. He was responsible for replacing Sourav Ganguly and showed strong leadership skills.
Suresh Raina also gained history with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain in 23 years and 112 days in 2010 and filled it for MS Dhoni. He later led the lions of Gujarat in 2016. These young captains proved their leadership early in their careers.

Virat Kohli got his first chance at the Royal Challenger Captain Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2011 IPL, when regular captain Daniel Vettori was eliminated due to a knee injury. Kohli is already a key player in India and a natural choice for leadership.

His captain started well with two straight wins, but RCB then suffered 111 hits against Kings XI Punjab. Although Kohli officially became the full-time captain of RCB in 2013, he continued to lead the team in 143 IPL games.
