Devdutt Padikkal is an Indian international cricketer who was born in Edappal, Kerala on 7 July 2000. He is a left-handed top-order batsman who represents Karnataka in domestic cricket and plays for Lucknow Supergiant in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Early life and education
In 2011, Padikar’s family moved from Hyderabad to Bangalore and Padikar started playing cricket at the Karnataka Cricket Academy. From 2014, he also played for Karnataka’s Under-16 and Under-19 teams and pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at St. Joseph’s University, Bangalore.

Domestic business
He played first-class cricket for Karnataka during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy and was later bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2019 IPL auction. Padikkal’s first season was a huge success as he scored 473 runs and won the Rookie of the Year award. He also hit three 50s in four matches, setting a record for most 50s in the IPL.
International career
Padikkal played his first international match for India in the T20I against Sri Lanka on 28 July 2021. He has also represented India A and the Under-19 cricket team. In March 2024, he was selected for the Indian team for the Test match and thus he made his Test debut on 7 March 2024 where he scored 65 runs in the first innings.
IPL Career
After a successful stint with RCB, Padikkal was acquired by Rajasthan Royals in 2022, where he continued to perform well, including scoring his maiden IPL hundred. In November 2023, he was traded to Lucknow Supergiants ahead of the 2024 IPL season.
