Prison School
Prison School is a Japanese manga written by Akira Hiramoto and serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from February 2011 to December 2017. The story takes place in a well-known and strict school that was originally an all-girls school, but later changed its policy and accepted five young men. Their behavior has caused them to be isolated, and they overcome various challenges to escape the control of the student council.
The manga, licensed for English publication by Yen Press, has sold over 13 million copies as of March 2018. In 2013, the manga won the 37th Kodansha Manga Award in the General Category. The series also spawned a 12-episode anime directed by Tsuyoshi Mizushima in 2015, and a live-action drama was aired the same year. The storyline combines humor with the characters’ efforts to overcome adversities in this unique school environment.

Once an all-girls school, Hachiko Gakuen now decides to admit boys, including Fujino Kiyoshi and his friends. However, they soon discover that among a thousand girls, there are only five boys. The school enforces strict rules, and even minor infractions can result in jail time. The boys are keen on voyeurism, adhering to the philosophy of “all for one, one for all”. When caught by the underground student union, they face a choice: spend a month in the school’s prison section, or be expelled.
In the prison area, they discover that the other boys are masochists who enjoy being punished by their charismatic but strict supervisor. Kiyoshi is initially shocked, but he must cope with this unexpected situation with his friends in a humorous and challenging school environment.
