PM Modi’s Lion Safari in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi caught the Lion Safari at the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in the Junagadh area of Gujarat during World Wildlife Day 2025. The visit was on the last day of his three-day Saurashtra tour. Modi spent the night at Sinh Sadan, a forest hotel owned by the Ministry of Forests in Sasan, where Modi took off the Jeep Safari in the morning, accompanied by ministers and senior forest officials. He saw and clicked on photos of the rich Asian lion in the wild and enjoyed the scenery of Jill in the safari.

The Prime Minister’s visit also involved presiding over the seventh meeting of Sasan Gir’s National Wildlife Commission (NBWL). NBWL has 47 members, including state representatives, NGOs and government staff engaged in wildlife conservation. Following this meeting, Modi spoke with female forest staff to appreciate their role in conservation efforts.
The coalition government has approved a lion project of more than Rs 29 billion, which will be used to protect Asian lions, and Gaiarat is their only natural habitat. These lions now occupy nearly 30,000 square kilometers in nine areas of Gujarat. In addition, new projects have been launched, such as the National Wildlife Centre in Junagard and the state-of-the-art monitoring centre in Sasan to improve the conservation process.
