Skull and Bones

Skull and Bones is a video game released by Ubisoft in 2024. The game tells the story of pirates and naval warfare in a fictional world of East Africa and Southeast Asia in the late 17th century, during the Golden Age of Piracy.

Skull and Bones is a multiplayer pirate game where you start out as a lone pirate and work your way up the ranks by completing contracts on your own or with up to three other players. As your fame grows, you can build new ships, new weapons, and customize your character.

Despite the delays, the game was released to great excitement, offering a similar experience to Black Flag, with an emphasis on multiplayer, but the single-player campaign is also fun.

After delays and challenges during development, the game was released on Amazon Luna, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on February 16, 2024. The game was also planned to be released on Google Stadia, but that version was canceled due to the service’s shutdown. Reviews for the game were mixed.

Skull and Bones Treasure Map

The map in Skull & Bones is large, allowing for plenty of sailing and piracy. It’s set in the fictional Indian Ocean, and players can explore the coasts and islands of Africa and the East Indies. Since most of the gameplay involves controlling your ship, the map is quite expansive, providing plenty of space for all your pirate activities. However, it will take some time to fully explore the map. The Skull & Bones map provides a detailed overview of the area, helping you plan your route and navigation even if your game map is incomplete.

In Skull & Bones, you can do a classic pirate activity: track down treasure maps. These maps are a little different–they’re more of a fun extra activity than something you collect. Once you figure out how to solve them, they’re pretty easy.

Where to find treasure maps

You can get treasure maps in four ways: as a reward for completing contracts, as part of a contract you have to solve, by sinking random ships, and by completing PvP and PvE activities. You can only hold a few maps at a time, so try to solve them as you get them. If a random ship has a treasure map, you’ll see it in your loot list when you look at the ship through the spyglass. Boarding an enemy ship gives you a small chance of getting a treasure map, even if the ship doesn’t have one.

How to solve a treasure map

Solving treasure maps in Skull & Bones is easier than you think. Each map has three clues. The first clue is written and usually gives the name of the location and a nearby landmark. The second clue is a map of the game world that you can compare to the in-game map. The third clue is a picture showing where in the outpost the treasure is, with a visible landmark.

All treasure chests are located at outposts, so you’ll need to go ashore to look for them. Once you’ve figured out the approximate location from the map, sail to an outpost in the area. When you disembark, a notification will appear in the game confirming that the treasure is located at that outpost.

Once you reach the outpost, you’ll need to use the landmark image on the map to find the treasure. When you’re about 20 to 30 meters away from the treasure, it will begin to glow orange and a beam of light will rise from the ground. Simply approach the spot and you’ll be able to dig up the treasure chest.

Skull and Bones Gameplay

Skull & Bones was originally described as a tactical action game set in an open world, using a third-person perspective, where players can control a customizable pirate ship, sailing the Indian Ocean in a single-player campaign, or team up with up to five players in player-versus-player games. Wind direction affects combat, and players have access to a variety of ships equipped with different weapons. Ships can be boarded and damaged, which is displayed through a health bar.

In Skull & Bones, you captain a pirate ship and are responsible for navigation, combat, and crew, much like the naval game of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. There are three ship types in the game – Navigation, Firepower, and Cargo – each with unique advantages, and all 12 ships are customizable. It is crucial to keep your ship in good condition and your crew happy, as unhappy crew members may mutiny. If your ship sinks, you will respawn in the nearest pirate lair but will only be able to recover a portion of the cargo, and you will need to retrieve the remaining cargo while possibly encountering other players.

The game features the use of wind direction to gain strategic advantage, different types of ships equipped with different weapons, and the ability to board enemy ships. Players can also participate in treasure hunts in the multiplayer mode “Trophie Hunt” and raid forts and settlements.
