Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – Templar Armor Quest Guide

Edward can wear a variety of armor in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but one of the best is the Templar armor, which greatly improves his defense and makes him take much less damage than his normal gear. Once you get the first key from the story mode, you can search for the remaining three keys through the following quest line.

Templar Hunt 01: Opia Apito

Mission 1: Taino Assassin

Head to the Castillo de Jagua area and find the Templar Hunting Point in the Cayman Channel (332,332). There are three ships in the area that will attack. You should be able to take them down easily with even a moderately upgraded Jackdaw. Swim to shore and head to the Templar Hunting Marker. The Assassin Opia Apito has challenged you to a hunting contest. You must kill and skin more Hutia than she can. Kill four Hutia and a white jaguar will attack. Climb up the nearest tree or rock formation and hit the jaguar with a tranquilizer dart for an easy kill. Skin the jaguar to initiate a cutscene and complete the first mission.

Mission 2: Templar Ship

Return to the Jackdaw and sail around to Grand Cayman (397,324) and dock at the port. Talk to Opia Apito standing on the dock. Follow her, then find Alvin and eavesdrop on his conversation. Once you reach the designated area, Alvin is standing in a large group of people. Use Eagle Vision to easily spot him, then head to the top of a nearby cabin to eavesdrop on his conversation safely.

When the conversation is over, kill Alvin and steal the ledger. Alternatively, you can sneak up behind him and steal it, but where’s the fun in that? Once you have the ledger, the quest is complete.

Mission 3: Right-hand man

Follow the markers to Opia Apito and talk to her again. Follow her again, then hide in the nearby bushes as directed. As the target runs away, chase him. You don’t have much time, so get as close to Vargas as possible. When he arrives at the harbor, a scene will be activated in which he jumps onto a boat. Your next goal is to reach the helm of the Jackdaw and chase him.

Incapacitate Vargas and board his ship. It won’t offer much resistance, but be careful of the fire barrels as you give chase. Board Vargas’ ship and kill him, and another cutscene will play to complete the mission.

Mission 4: Tracking Lucia Márquez

Sail to Pinos Island (332,469) to find two ships patrolling the harbor. You can easily take down one ship and swim to shore, or if you’re in a particularly bad mood, take down both ships. Go ashore and talk to Opia again to start the next mission.

Follow the guards. If you’re staying with Opia, you won’t have to worry about them. Kill the guards ahead using the explosive barrels on the left, stealth attacks, or head-on attacks. Once the guards are down, Opia will call in a few guards to amuse you. Make sure she’s not attacked, then take out the remaining guards, then chase down and kill Lucia Márquez. Every time she stops, she’ll shoot at Opia, so kill her quickly. Once she’s dead, the mission and side quest are complete.

Templar Hunt 02: Lorna Dinsmore

Mission 1: The Bureau is under attack

Head to Havana to find the next Templar Hunt mission. Go to the starting point (240,607) and speak to Rhona Dinsmore to begin the mission. Help her defend her position by attacking the guards and moving the gunpowder barrels to the designated entrances. You must move the gunpowder barrels to each of the three entrances to the defense area between attacks. Defeat all four waves of guards to complete the mission.

Mission 2: Market Thief

Talk to Rona again to start the next mission. Your first objective is to find a pickpocket. Once you find him, he just stole a soldier’s money… pretty badly. As he runs away from the soldier, chase him. When he stops, kill him, then pick his pockets to complete the mission.

Mission 3: Arms Race

Return to Rona again and talk to her to start the quest. Your next objective is to find and ignite the three guards’ gunpowder stores. You can sneak into each building, stealthily take out the guards, and then ignite the gunpowder, or you can rush in and do it the gladiator way. The choice is yours, as long as you complete the quest. Once all three are destroyed, the quest is complete.

Mission 4: Flint’s End

Go back and talk to Lorna to start the next mission. Follow Lorna until she reaches the heavily guarded area where Flint is. Ignore all the guards and go to the back of the area to find Flint. Take him down quickly, as there is no need to engage the other guards. After taking down Flint, flee the area and complete the mission anonymously. Climb up to the rooftops to get away from the guards more easily.

Hunting the Templars 03: Anto

Mission 1: Maroon Assassin

Head to Kingston to find Antor and complete the next Templar Hunt side quest. Speak to Antor to start the quest, then head to the guards and eavesdrop on their conversation. Start at the bench, then follow them as they move. When they stop, blend in with the crowd to avoid detection.

After the conversation, head to the next group of guards and eavesdrop on their conversation. Climb onto the rooftop to avoid detection. When the guards are alerted that someone is eavesdropping, they flee. Follow one of the guards and tackle him to the ground to complete the mission.

Mission 2: Recruiting the Maroons

Talk to Antor again to start the next quest. Escort him to each area and free the slaves. The slaves are not well guarded, but if you want to have some fun, you can hire the drunk near the first slave and they will help you fight the guards near all three slaves. Free all three slaves to complete the quest.

Mission 3: Under Attack

Return to Antor to start the next mission. Your goal is to defend the Antor Bureau. There are three waves of attackers. You can eliminate them between attacks to reduce their number, but it is not necessary. You can easily complete the mission by just waiting in the bureau for each wave of attacks. Defeat all attackers to complete the mission.

Meet up with Antor one last time to start the mission. Follow Antor and shadow the guards until they enter the compound. Use Eagle Eye to sneak into the compound to find Kenneth Abraham. He can be found near the northeast corner of the compound. Once you find him, you must kill him. If you’re approaching from a rooftop, you can use an aerial assassination. You can also wait in tall bushes, or go for a full frontal assault. It doesn’t matter as long as Kenneth is dead. Once he’s dead, flee the area to complete the mission and the side quest.

Hunt for the Templars 04: Vance Travers

Mission 1: Oh Brother…

Sail to Nassau to find Vance Travers. Talk to him to start the mission. Your first goal is to find Upton’s men. Go to the designated area and use Eagle Vision to spot them. Once you find these men, head to the rooftops to follow them and eavesdrop on their conversation. When they arrive at the compound, you must find Upton. He is right in the middle of the compound. Use the trees to move above him, then assassinate him from above. Oddly enough, you won’t actually assassinate him, but the mission will be completed regardless.

Mission 2: Another Brother

Return to the office and speak with Upton to begin the mission. Follow him until you are directed to hide in the foliage. Follow Upton and Vance, using the rooftops to the left of the two to stay undetected. When they stop in the middle of the square, a thief appears up ahead. Stay on the rooftop and wait for the thief to get close, then kill him with an aerial assassination.

Continue to follow Vance and Upton, and stay to the left of the two. The second thief will try to attack the two. Stop him before he gets into the two’s line of sight. In this case, you can just walk up to him and assassinate the thief. Just make sure you don’t get seen by the two while you do this.

When they stop again, a third thief attempts to attack the brothers. Again, if you stay to the left of the two men, you should have no trouble taking him down without being seen. Simply walk up to the thief while he’s hiding and then take him out.

When the two separate, continue to follow Vance until he meets up with his female friend. You’ll need to eavesdrop on their conversation, but there aren’t many hiding places. Use trees and rooftops to get around to the other side of the couple, then hide in the bushes near the well before they stop.

After a brief conversation, you have to find Upton’s killer in a minute or less. Quickly head to the designated search area. Activate Eagle Vision and look down from the rooftops. The suspicious person walking around like an assassin is your target. You should be able to take him out from the rooftop without any trouble and complete the mission.

Mission 3: Upton’s Sorrow

Head to the tavern and talk to Upton to start the next mission. After the cutscene, you must protect Upton and defeat a gang of thugs with your bare hands. When attacking the thugs, stay close to Upton to ensure he is safe. Once all the thugs have been defeated, escort Upton to safety. Pay the dancer to leave, then protect Upton from two groups of guards who will attack him after he goes to the bathroom. Once Upton is safe, your mission is complete.

Mission 4: Pirate Queen, King of Fools

Meet up with Upton again and talk to him to start the quest. Your next goal is to find Vance. Head to the search area and be careful of the two alligators lurking in the water. If you don’t want to worry about them, you can take them out with a sleep dart.

Move through the area, taking down the guards in a stealthy manner, or with brute force if you prefer. Vance is located in the middle of the search area, on the far east side. Once you find him, the goal is to kill him. Use the trees to climb above Vance and assassinate him from above, then hunt down Jin Lang as she flees the area. Kill her to complete the mission and the entire Templar Hunt side quest.

How do I get the Templar armor?

Go to your hideout, Great Inagua, and find the Templar Armor inside the Hacienda (845,468). Using the four keys from each of the previous side quests and the original key from Story Mode, you can now open the cage containing the Templar Armor. Equipping the armor grants a defense boost.
