FASTag Users, Pay Attention: FASTag Rules Changed Effective August 1—Here Are the Updates

The FASTag rules have been changed and the updated rules will come into effect from August 1. The aim of the update to the FASTag rules is to improve the toll payment process and reduce congestion at toll plazas.

The National Payments Cooperation Authority of India (NPCI) has released new guidelines for changes in FASTag rules. One important update is the mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) requirement for FASTag.

The KYC process will begin on Thursday. FASTag customers should ensure that their KYC is updated within the stipulated time to comply with NPCI guidelines.

New FASTag rules

Several changes have been made to FASTags. These changes include:

alternatives:

The first thing to talk about is the replacement of 5-year-old FASTags. This means that FASTags that are more than 5 years old have to be replaced.

Connecting the vehicle:

Another key change to talk about is that the vehicle registration number and chassis number must be linked with FASTag.

For 3 year old FASTags:

KYC must be updated for FASTags issued 3 years ago.

Image upload requirements:

The changes require users to upload clear images of the front and side of their car.

Database Verification:

As per the new rules, FASTag providers will have to verify their database.

Associated mobile phone number:

Users have to link their FASTags with their mobile numbers.

Apart from these changes, companies will have to comply with NPCi regulations from August 1. The regulations pertain to renewal of FASTags that are between 3 and 5 years old. The guidelines also require renewal of FASTags that are more than 5 years old.

Conclusion

FASTag is an important element to facilitate easy and smooth toll payment. This can reduce the traffic at toll plazas. From August 1 to October 31, FASTag users will have three to five years to complete the KYC process for FASTags issues.

It is worth noting that the deadline to complete all KYC requirements is October 31, 2024. Therefore, it is wise not to delay the update to avoid any potential issues.
