How do sub-stories work in Dragon Gaiden?
In Yakuza Gaiden, the adventure is a little different from the usual Yakuza series. Sub-stories, those wacky side quests we love, are still a part of the game, but with a unique approach.
Find substory
Unlike previous games where you stumbled across sub-stories in the open world, in Yakuza Gaiden you discover them through Akame and her network. First, go to Akame’s residence in Sotenbori and access her network.
Visit substory
Once you reach Akame’s location, navigate to the “Requests” section of the menu. Here you will find all available sub-stories that you can take on.

Over time, new sub-stories or requests unfold within the Akame network. It usually relates to story progression, so check back regularly. Or, revisit Akame’s places as you near completion of the main campaign or during Advanced Adventure Mode.

The good news is that while some sub-stories may be prerequisites for other sub-stories, there are no hard and fast restrictions tied to specific chapters. You have the flexibility to select them at any time, allowing you to enjoy the game without having to worry about missing content while playing Yakuza Gaiden.

How to find substory in Dragon Gaiden?
To find side stories in Yakuza Gaiden, you’ll first encounter a character named Akame. She has prepared many interesting side quests for you. But before she hands them over to you, you’ll need to complete some simple missions called “Wandering Patrol” missions. These tasks include things like quick battles or finding specific items, and you can see them on the map.
After you complete enough roaming patrol missions, Akame will arrange request missions for you. These are common sub-stories with all the fun stuff players love. Some of these quests may be locked until you progress through the main story, so you can’t complete them all at once. But once you unlock requests, try to complete as many as possible. They give you more Akame Points, helping you rank higher and unlock more requests.
Remember that you can also find sub-stories in the Arena. As you follow the main story, you’ll encounter the Four Kings, the strongest warriors in the arena. Defeating them will open new side stories, most involving more battles in the arena. Between the Arena and Akame, you’ll quickly discover all of the side stories in Yakuza Gaiden. Keep in mind that this game is shorter than the main entry, so there won’t be as many sub-stories to find.

Like Dragon Gaiden gameplay
In the game “Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name”, players play as Kazuma Kiryu and explore the Sotenbori area of Osaka. Additionally, parts of Yokohama’s Isezaki Ijincho district are familiar locations from Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Lost Trials and can be visited in certain parts of the story.
The castle is another location that serves as a central area for various side activities. The game brings back popular mini-games such as Karaoke, Pocket Racing, Cabaret Club, and Fighting Arena. New character Akame acts as an informant and provides Kiryu with side missions.
