Jurassic World Rebirth’s 10 Biggest Rumors

A new Jurassic Park movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, is currently in the works, and the rumor mill is running wild with speculation about the upcoming sequel. In January 2024, it was reported that Universal was actively developing a follow-up to Jurassic World Dominion that would bring the Jurassic Park franchise into a new era. David Koepp, the screenwriter behind the original Jurassic Park and its first sequel, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, was tapped to write the script. Steven Spielberg, the director of the original film, will once again serve as an executive producer on the new movie, creating an exciting connection to the series’ past.

After talks with David Leitch quickly fell through, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards was hired to direct the new movie, which has been officially titled Jurassic World Rebirth. The movie is being fast-tracked for a release date of July 2, 2025, so cameras started rolling soon after Edwards signed on to direct. Since the film has come together so rapidly, and there are so many different possibilities for the next chapter of the Jurassic saga, speculation is running rampant about where Jurassic World Rebirth will go – and there are some pretty exciting rumors.

10 Jurassic World Rebirth’s Main Cast Will Be A Mix Of Kids & Adults

Like Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Or The Original Jurassic Park)

Close

The earliest rumor about the new Jurassic World movie was that the main cast would be split between children and adults. This is similar to a different legacy sequel, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which combined grown-up characters like Egon Spengler’s daughter and her new boyfriend with a younger cast made up of a Goonies-like new generation of Ghostbusters. Putting both kids and adults in the main cast is a shortcut to creating a four-quadrant movie that appeals to all demographics.

Placing kids in a survival situation raises the stakes of a story drastically and it would be a welcome return to the franchise’s roots.

If Jurassic World Rebirth has some kids in its main cast, then it’ll be similar to the original movie. The original Jurassic Park splits its time between John Hammond and his team trying to get the power back on and Hammond’s grandchildren trying to survive in the dinosaurs’ deactivated enclosures. Placing kids in a survival situation raises the stakes of a story drastically and it would be a welcome return to the franchise’s roots.

9 Jurassic World Rebirth Is A Lot Darker Than The Previous Films

Jurassic World 4 Could Have A Grimmer Tone Than Its Predecessors

Close

It’s been rumored that Jurassic World Rebirth will have a much darker tone than its predecessors. Most of the previous Jurassic movies have been family-friendly sci-fi adventures, but Jurassic World Rebirth could be aiming for something grimmer and scarier. It could be shaping up to be a full-blown Jurassic Park horror movie (albeit with the usual PG-13 rating).

From the return of the T-Rex to the iconic Jurassic Park theme, Jurassic World Dominion has a large list of homages to the original dino thriller.

Last year’s prehistoric thriller 65 attempted to do something similar, depicting its dinosaurs as exaggerated movie monsters and using them for plenty of jump scares and gruesome action scenes, but it wasn’t successful, either critically or commercially.

The previous films have touched on darker aspects.Jurassic World had a great sequence in which the Indominus rex stalks and slaughters the security team sent to capture it. It would be awesome to see that stretched to a full feature-length outing and would be a welcome update to the franchise’s recent cartoonish tone.

8 The Spinosaurus Will Return In Jurassic World Rebirth

The Spinosaurus Hasn’t Been Seen Since Jurassic Park III

Close

Jurassic World Rebirth is rumored to feature the long-awaited return of the Spinosaurus. The Spinosaurus was first seen in Jurassic Park III, and its agility, formidable size, and terrifying roar made it one of the few highlights of the polarizing threequel. But despite being well-received, the Spinosaurus hasn’t been seen since. Its skeleton can be seen in the first Jurassic World and it was supposed to be featured in both of its sequels, but it ended up being cut from both Fallen Kingdom and Dominion.

If this rumor is true, it’s certainly an exciting prospect. The Spinosaurus is one of the Jurassic Park franchise’s scariest creatures and it hasn’t been seen in over two decades, so it’s long overdue for a comeback. Jurassic World Rebirth would be the perfect place to finally bring back the Spinosaurus.

7 Jurassic World Rebirth Is A Love Story

The Casting Of Jurassic World 4’s Lead Roles Suggests A Romance

Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson in long grass in Jurassic World Rebirth

Scarlett Johansson and Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey have been cast to play the lead roles in Jurassic World Rebirth. Johansson will play a covert ops expert named Zora Bennett, presumably a badass action hero, and Bailey will play paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, presumably a peaceful, mild-mannered scientist. The casting of these two lead roles has led to rumors that the movie will be a love story, and their characters will have a romance.

Jurassic World Rebirth may not be out in theaters until 2025, but the movie is already changing the franchise in significant and meaningful ways.

Romance has always been a key factor in these movies. Doctors Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler have had a long on-and-off relationship arc throughout the entire saga and Jurassic World’s Owen Grady and Claire Dearing went from a will-they-won’t-they opposites-attract couple to co-parenting a clone. It wouldn’t be surprising if Jurassic World Rebirth has a romantic subplot between its two lead characters.

6 Chris Pratt Will Return As Owen Grady

Pratt Has Teased He Could Return In Jurassic World 4

Although Jurassic World Rebirth has recruited an all-new cast of characters to lead the way, there’s been a rumor that Chris Pratt could reprise his role from the Jurassic World trilogy as Owen Grady. When Pratt was asked about his potential return to the Jurassic World franchise (via Digital Spy), he didn’t confirm he was returning, but he didn’t confirm he wasn’t returning, either: “Maybe. Maybe I return. Maybe I don’t.

5 Jurassic World Rebirth Will Feature A Pair Of T. Rex Siblings

This Rumor Is Weirdly Specific (But Kind Of A Cool Idea)

Close

One of the more outlandish and weirdly specific rumors about Jurassic World Rebirth is that it’ll feature a pair of T. rex siblings for the first time in the series. If this rumor is true, it would follow the Aliens school of thought that the best way to raise the stakes in a monster movie sequel is to multiply the monsters. Twisters recently delivered twin tornadoes, and Jurassic World Rebirth could deliver sibling T. rexes.

It would certainly be an interesting way to raise the tension. In most previous Jurassic movies, the biggest possible threat has been one T. rex coming after the heroes. But it could be even scarier to have two T. rexes working together. One T. rex could chase the heroes one way and the second T. rex could be waiting to trap them.

Jurassic World 4 Might Not Feature Any Familiar Faces

Contrary to the Pratt rumor, a different rumor suggests that Jurassic World Rebirth will be a complete reboot and won’t feature any of the established characters and storylines from the previous films. It’s confirmed to take place in the same continuity, picking up five years after Jurassic World Dominion, but the connections to the past might begin and end there. As such, the legacy cast might not be coming back.

The Jurassic World trilogy was very much connected to the past. B.D. 3 Jurassic World Rebirth Will Change The Classic Dinosaur Designs

Jurassic World 4 Might Be Reimagining The Franchise’s Dinosaurs

Close

The Jurassic Park franchise’s dinosaur designs are iconic and globally recognizable. The dinosaurs are arguably more the stars of this franchise than the human actors.Jurassic Park’s depictions of T. rexes and velociraptors have become more widely known than what paleontologists believe these creatures actually looked like. As far as most moviegoers are concerned, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park are what dinosaurs really looked like.

But there’s a rumor that Jurassic World Rebirth will change the franchise’s classic dinosaur designs with a completely reimagined look. The rumor suggests that Jurassic World Rebirth’s dinosaurs will be given more spikes, no feathers, and exaggerated features to look more monstrous and retro. These reimagined dinosaurs are described as being similar to the creature designs in Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong, which is sure to stir up controversy if it’s true.

2 Jurassic World Rebirth’s Miracle Drug Storyline Will Be Similar To Avatar: The Way Of Water’s Amrita Storyline

The Plot Synopsis Sounds Awfully Similar To Avatar 2’s Whale Brain Juice Storyline

A scientist with Amrita in Avatar The Way of Water

The official plot synopsis for Jurassic World Rebirth has promised that the three biggest creatures within the dinosaur-infested world hold the key to a miracle drug that could save human lives. It seems as though the movie’s scientists will discover the cure for cancer in the dinosaur’s genes or something equally far-fetched. This sounds awfully similar to a plot point from James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, another sci-fi epic that warns against disturbing the natural order.

In Avatar: The Way of Water, the human colonists of Pandora discover that the brains of the Tulkun – a highly intelligent whale-like species – contains a golden fluid called Amrita that’s the key to immortality in humans. Jurassic World Rebirth sounds like it’ll follow the exact same storyline. Human scientists will extract a chemical that will help humans at the expense of majestic creatures.

1 Jurassic World Rebirth Will Finally Introduce Human-Dinosaur Hybrids

Previous Jurassic Park Sequels Have Scrapped The Dino-Human Hybrid Concept

Concept art for a human-dinosaur hybrid in Jurassic Park 4

Since Jurassic World Rebirth is promising a shocking, game-changing twist that will upend the franchise, there’s been speculation that the new sequel could finally introduce human-dinosaur hybrids to this universe. Previous Jurassic Park sequels scrapped the dino-human hybrid concept, but it’s always been a popular idea. Thematically, this is a Frankenstein story about the dangers of playing God, and creating an ungodly dino-human hybrid would be a perfect way to build on that.

Given the enthusiastic response to the human-xenomorph hybrid introduced in Alien: Romulus, it seems as though a human-dinosaur hybrid would go down well in Jurassic World Rebirth. After the disappointment of the Jurassic World trilogy, this new movie needs to be more adventurous to get people excited about this franchise again. A dino-human hybrid could be just the trick to reinvigorate that audience interest.
