In the ten years since its inception, the Asian Champions Cup has become one of the most exciting intercontinental hockey events with global media attention. The competition is Asia’s top competition, a contest between the six major hockey powers in Asia. Since then, the competition has grown rapidly over the years, from an annual event to a biennial event, and its women’s team rankings have reached an all-time high.

Men’s Asian Championship Trophy winners until 2024

The inaugural Men’s Asian Hockey Champions Cup kicked off with the top six teams from the 2010 Asian Games – India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and China. Led by charismatic captain Rajpal Singh, the Indian team won the first ever Men’s Asian Champions Cup title by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling final on penalties.

Pakistan has won the title three times since then, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive tournament in its history.

The 2018 Asian Champions Cup took an unprecedented turn as the final between India and Pakistan was abandoned due to incessant rains, resulting in the trophy being shared by the two teams.

The coronavirus pandemic further disrupted the event’s momentum, forcing the 2020 event to be postponed and eventually held in 2021.

Asian Women’s Hockey Championship Trophy Winners until 2024

South Korea has dominated the Women’s Asian Championships, winning the title three times. After winning the inaugural title, they successfully defended the title in 2011 and won it again in 2018, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament. Here is the list:

The Indian women’s hockey team has been a consistent performer in the Asian Champions Cup, reaching the final four times and winning the title in 2016 and 2023. Japan is another country that has won the women’s title.
