1975 – West Indies wins the first World Cup
The first World Cup of Cricket was played in England. The West Indies, led by Clive Lloyd, canceled the inaugural trophy by defeating Australia. Lloyd scored 102 in the final and set the tone for West Indies’ dominance in early days.
1979 – West Indies twice in a row
In order to defend its title, the West Indies won again. Viv Richards stole the show with a 138* sensation, helping his team beat England in the final.
1983 – India makes history
India shocked the world of cricket by defeating the powerful West Indies in the final. Under the captain of Kapil Dev, India canceled their first World Cup title. Kapil Dev’s image of holding the trophy remains iconic.
