The Sahitya Akademi Awards 2024 have been announced to honor 21 writers and poets from different languages across India. The awards recognize outstanding work in categories such as fiction, poetry, short stories, essays, drama and literary criticism.

Hindi poet Gagan Gill wins award for his collection of poems Major Jab Tak al-Baharwhile British author Easterling Keele won the award for her novel spirit night.

Sahitya Akademi Chairman Madhav Kaushik announced the awards. The award is authorized by the Academy’s Executive Committee. Books eligible for the award must have been published between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2022.
The winners will receive medals, shawls and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh on March 8, 2025. Awards for Bengali, Dogri and Urdu will be announced at a later date.
