On August 1, Indian shooter Swapnil Kusale won a bronze medal for India in the men’s rifle 50m three positions event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On August 1, Manu Bhaker achieved another first: she is the first athlete since independent India to win two medals at the same Olympics – she replicated a feat achieved by Norman Pritchard back in 1900. Bhaker’s two achievements bring her total medals at the Olympics to four: the third place came in the women’s 10m air pistol shooting and the mixed team 10m air pistol shooting (the latter with Sarabjot Singh).

Paris 2024 Olympics Medal List for India, Total – By Team
After winning seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics, India has set the bar higher and is looking to break the double digit mark. The preparations for wrestling were a bit chaotic but athletes from different events said they were confident about their preparations. Well-planned international camps and good infrastructure helped them win more medals.

Key appointments to the Indian team include deputy head coach Shiva Keshavan and Chef de Mission Gagan Narang. Noted athletes Sharath Kamal and PV Sindhu have been chosen as flag bearers for the inaugural event. India has participated in every Summer Olympics since the 1920 Berlin Games, and this summer’s Tokyo Games will be the country’s 26th consecutive participation in the global sporting event that unites the world.

Bakker also became the first athlete to accomplish this feat since India’s independence. The only other athlete who failed to win the gold medal was Norman Pritchard in the 1900 Olympics.

Manu Bhaker made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event, India’s first medal. She became the first Indian to win an Olympic shooting medal. Prior to this, she qualified for the Olympic shooting final in a groundbreaking move, something that had not been achieved by an Indian woman in 20 years. In the final, Bhaker finished third behind the Korean duo of Oh Ye-jin and Kim Ye-ji, who finished first and second.
