The Krispy Kreme and Pokemon Collab Donuts are too Cute (and too Far Away) to Eat

We can never get tired of Pokemon collaborations, especially when the result is both cute and sweet. The latest news about a collaboration with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has us both disappointed and relieved: These adorable donuts are currently only available in South Korea, making them a little hard for many fans to try. But if they stay that way, at least we won’t have to schedule another dentist visit or worry about biting into those too-cute-to-eat donuts.

The half-dozen donut boxes come with donuts themed after the Kanto region, featuring Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Ditto, Psyduck, and Diglett, as well as a regular frosted donut. They’re all precious, and while the actual donuts aren’t as perfect as they appear in the promotional images, as the fan photo above from Twitter user @JihyeandKorea shows, that just adds to their charm. I’m surprised to say that Diglett was my favorite in terms of appearance: the chocolate Diglett is part of the entire dirt scene on the donut, rather than just having its face painted with frosting.

Diglett’s flavors also seem pretty good, though we likely won’t be able to try them in person anytime soon. According to Instagram user snackolator, Diglett’s donuts are dark chocolate flavored. Jigglypuff is a regular donut filled with strawberry cream (not sure if the frosting is also strawberry flavored), a classic combination that’s perfect for Pokémon. Ditto’s donuts are topped with strawberry milk cream, which complements the colorful sprinkles underneath. As for Pikachu and Psyduck, one is lemon flavored and the other is described as “corn cream flavored,” but there’s no word on which is which.

While it’s disappointing that many fans outside of Korea won’t be able to try these donuts, the real loss is the adorable plush keychains featuring Pikachu, Ditto, and Snorlax, as shown above. Regardless of how cute and delicious the donuts are, it’s the plush toys that are the most appealing to me. While it’s unlikely that these keychains will be released internationally, at least we can enjoy them, as evidenced by the donuts we didn’t get to eat.
