29-year-old American discus thrower Valerie Allman once again demonstrated her dominance in the sport by winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She set a new American record with a throw of 69.50 meters, cementing her place as one of the world’s top discus throwers.

She previously won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming a two-time Olympic champion and further establishing her prominence in the discus throw. Valerie Allman is a 29-year-old American discus thrower who was born on February 23, 1995 in Newark, Delaware and grew up in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

She originally wanted to be a dancer, but started running track during her freshman year of high school at the encouragement of her brother.

Allman has participated in various sporting events and represented her country at international competitions. Allman represented the United States at the 2017 Summer Universiade, winning a silver medal in the discus throw.

Although she failed to qualify for the 2017 World Championships, she continued to train and improve her skills, ultimately earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Valerie won a gold medal in the discus throw at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, solidifying her status as one of the top athletes in the sport.

She won bronze at the 2022 World Championships in Track and Field, becoming the first American woman to win a world championship in the discus throw. She won gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Allman’s personal best in the discus is 71.46 meters (234 feet 5+1⁄4 inches), set at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla on April 8, 2022. It is the 15th-longest throw in history and the longest throw in nearly 30 years.

The eternal throw: Allman’s winning moment

Valerie Allman won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a stunning 69.50m, nearly two metres ahead of China’s Feng Bin. Sandra Elkasevi of Croatia took bronze with 67.51m. Allman’s four clean throws exceeded Feng Bin’s best.
