Who was CrossFit athlete Lazar Dukic, who passed away during a competition?

The world recently lost a CrossFit Games competitor who died during a swim meet at Marine Creek Lake in Texas on Thursday morning.

CrossFit CEO Don Fore said in a news release that they were “deeply saddened by the news.” They also said they are cooperating with authorities investigating the death of the athlete at Marin Creek Lake.

A Fort Worth Fire Department official said they received a call around 8 a.m. requesting police assistance because “a person had fallen into the water and had not resurfaced.”

Officials in charge of the event learned that one participant was last seen in the water but has not resurfaced since and is currently missing.

Fort Worth fire officials said they launched a search and rescue operation but were not on scene when they were called.

Fall further stated that CrossFit has a safety plan in place and has security personnel at events.

Lazar Dukic is a CrossFit athlete from Serbia. Lazar Dukic was born in 1995. The athlete was awarded the title of “Most Fit Athlete in Serbia” in March 2017 and March 2018. According to reports, he performed better than all other athletes in the competition for five years.

In May 2017, he received his CrossFit Level 1 Coach certification. He announced the news on Instagram.

During the 2020 pandemic, Lazar and his brother Luca posted some “fun and inspiring” online challenges on Instagram.

The 28-year-old Serbian athlete has gained international recognition for competing in top extreme fitness competitions.

Dukic has successfully qualified for the CrossFit Games every year since 2021. He finished ninth in the 2021 season. He finished eighth in 2022 and ninth in 2023. He qualified for the fitness competition after becoming the national champion in 2019. However, he later turned down the opportunity to compete. He chose to make his debut two years later.

Prior to joining CrossFit, the player played water polo and won a total of six national championships representing Serbia.
